In May 2023, we kicked off our new Lunch Chat series – a monthly opportunity to connect with grant partners and have time to chat about a specific topic. Held on Zoom from May to November, each Lunch Chat included a presentation followed by a discussion, or shall we say, a chat. We shared information on our funding priorities, grant programs, and internal processes. Afterward, participants shared their thoughts, questions, and ideas.

Topics covered in the Lunch Chats included: our Basic Needs/Direct Service Grants Program and the recent changes we made to the process, our Responsive Grants Program, capacity building, relationship building, ways that we provide support beyond the check, our financial review process when evaluating grant requests, and tips on completing final reports.

We also had some dynamic speakers join us for presentations, including SHF Board Member Alice Harris, who shared her financial expertise and explained formulas that nonprofits can use to assess their financial health. At the final Lunch Chat, in November, we shared the results of our Grant Partner and Peer Perception Study.

Over the span of seven months, 120 people participated in various lunch chats, some attending one and some joining us several times. Not only did we get good feedback on our practices, but we also enjoyed seeing how organizations connected with each other and shared their own advice and experiences during the discussion.

The series was such a success that we are already talking about how to continue chatting in 2024!

Whether or not you attended the Lunch Chat, we would like to hear from you!
