Sixty nonprofit organizations in the Mid-Ohio Valley received grant funding from the Sisters Health Foundation (SHF) in support of its vision of “healthy people in healthy communities”. At its most recent meeting, the SHF’s Board of Directors approved a total of $627,650 in funding.
Twenty-one organizations that provide direct services, such as food and emergency assistance, received a total of $67,500 from the Basic Needs/Direct Service Grants Program.
Adams House Ministries; Middlebourne, WV — $5,000 for fresh produce vouchers for Tyler County residents.
Calhoun County Committee on Aging, Inc.; Grantsville, WV — $5,000 to support their nutrition program serving senior citizens and veterans in Calhoun County.
Calhoun Family Resource Network; Grantsville, WV — $4,000 to enhance their senior and infant/toddler programs by adding essential products that include hygiene items.
GFWC Parkersburg Woman’s Club; Parkersburg, WV — $2,500 to provide weekend nutritious snacks to students at McKinley and Emerson Elementary Schools.
Havar, Inc.; Athens, OH — $2,088 to purchase Sonicare electric toothbrushes and waterpiks to address dental needs of individuals with developmental disabilities in Athens and Washington Counties.
Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio; Worthington, OH — $3,000 for non-perishable food and fresh produce to support their mobile food pantries in Athens and Meigs Counties.
MOV Regional Council; Parkersburg, WV — $4,000 to assist in helping seniors remain independent in their own home.
Nelsonville Food Cupboard; Nelsonville, OH — $3,750 to purchase a commercial cooler.
Ohio University Foundation – Baker Center Food Pantry; Athens, OH — $2,500 to purchase food for the university’s food pantry to help first and second year low-income students.
Old Man Rivers; Parkersburg, WV — $4,000 to support the costs of eye exams and glasses.
Nazareth Farm; Salem, WV — $2,000 for home repair projects in Ritchie County.
Parents and Friends of the Hearing Impaired, Inc.; Marietta, OH — $5,000 for purchase or repair of hearing aids for low-income deaf and hard of hearing individuals in the Mid-Ohio Valley.
Parkersburg Urban Ministries, Inc.; Parkersburg, WV — $5,000 to assist in utility service payments for Wood County households.
Savannah’s Closet; Ripley, WV — $4,737 to help provide clothing and hygiene items to children in foster care and in urgent need in Jackson and Roane Counties.
St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church; Parkersburg, WV — $800 for fresh produce and stable food items for children.
Stephenson United Methodist Church; Parkersburg, WV — $1,000 to purchase ready to eat food items for children.
Syracuse Community Center; Syracuse, OH — $900 to purchase a new water fountain.
The Wirt County Missional Group LLC; Elizabeth, WV — $4,000 to assist with food pantry costs.
United Campus Ministry; Athens, OH — $1,725 to provide healthy food for LGBTQ youth at an after-school and summer cooking program in Athens County.
West Central Regional Drug Court; Parkersburg, WV — $5,000 to assist Drug Court participants with housing assistance and items as they maintain a sober living environment.
Wirt County Extension; Elizabeth, WV — $1,500 to support the nutrition education program’s food tastings and demonstrations.

Pilot Club of Jackson County; Ripley, WV — $10,000 to provide dental services for people in Jackson County.
Recovery Point of West Virginia; Huntington, WV — $30,000 to provide oral health care services to men entering the first phase of the long-term recovery program. This is in partnership with the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department.
WV Health Right; Charleston, WV — $35,000 to support the mobile dental clinic in Roane County.
Health Equity Priority Area
American Friends Service Committee; Milton, WV — $15,000 to support policy advocacy on health equity issues surrounding child nutrition, juvenile mental health, and criminal justice.
Catholic Committee of Appalachia; Spencer, WV — $5,000 to support house improvements and repairs for emergency housing and retreat center for victims of crisis and for marginalized populations.
Children’s Hunger Alliance; Columbus, OH — $5,000 to support in-home family child care providers obtain a one-star Step Up to Quality rating in Meigs County.
Circles Campaign of the Mid-Ohio Valley, Inc.; Parkersburg, WV — $12,000 to support a Resource Coordinator who will help clients with education and employment development and to purchase office equipment.
Community Food Initiatives; Athens, OH — $20,000 to continue replication of the WV FOODLINK model in Southeast Ohio which focuses on improving access to affordable and nutritious food.
Cornerstone Gospel Church; Vienna, WV — $2,400 to help maintain the transport of individuals to and from recovery programs.
Hocking-Athens-Perry Community Action (HAPCAP); Glouster, OH — $14,000 to support the operation and maintenance of a new fixed-route transportation line in Athens County with additional connections to Albany and Nelsonville.
Kanawha Valley Fellowship Home; Charleston, WV — $4,000 to supplement utility expenses for their transitional home, intermediate apartments and aftercare apartments.
Marshall University Research Corporation; Huntington, WV — $60,000 to support the implementation of mental health prevention, early intervention and treatment in Ritchie County Schools.
Marshall University Research Corporation; Huntington, WV — $32,500 to develop sustainable employment for Community Health Workers serving high-risk diabetes patients in Athens County.
Mid-Ohio Valley Fellowship Home; Parkersburg, WV — $25,000 to support efforts in addressing community needs and facilitating access to resources during the current drug epidemic in the Mid-Ohio Valley.
Mountaineer Food Bank; Gassaway, WV — $20,000 to purchase racking and wrapping equipment for their warehouse.
National Church Residences; Belpre, OH — $9,000 to provide transportation for people with substance use disorders to necessary medical and court appointments in Washington and Wood Counties.
Pleasants County Commission; St. Marys, WV — $2,500 for partial match support for the installation of an elevator in the Pleasants County Courthouse.
Pleasants County Office of Emergency Services; St. Marys, WV — $6,800 to purchase formal emergency decontamination equipment and trailer.
The Children’s Listening Place; Parkersburg, WV — $16,485 to purchase a high quality digital camera that produces high definition images for examinations allowing for more effective prosecution of sexual assault suspects.
Wirt County Schools; Elizabeth, WV — $75,000 to support the on-site mental health professional at Wirt County School to address students’ behavioral and mental health needs and to foster self-regulation strategies within classrooms.
West Virginia Center on Budget and Policy; Charleston, WV — $12,000 to support their advocacy work to develop and share data-driven research with the Food for All Coalition and WV Medicaid Coalition and host the Food for All Summit.

Arnoldsburg Elementary; Arnoldsburg, WV — $4,000 to support the renovation of a recreational area for students and the community.
Boys and Girls Club of Pleasants County; St. Marys, WV — $12,000 to assist in enhancing and upgrading the kitchen and teen center.
Boys and Girls Club of Washington County; Marietta, OH — $16,000 to provide support for Triple Play, a healthy habits and lifestyles program for children.
City of Vienna; Vienna, WV — $20,000 to purchase exercise equipment for an adult playground in Wood County.
Community Recovery Center; Parkersburg, WV — $3,000 to support recovery services for individuals and their families.
Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center; Wheeling, WV — $3,750 to support the implementation of a summer equine-assisted therapy program for children with disabilities.
Latrobe Street Mission; Parkersburg, WV — $5,000 to purchase new beds for the men’s dormitory.
Live Healthy Appalachia; Athens, OH — $9,000 to expand the children’s nutrition education program through an accessible and interactive online program curricula in Meigs County Schools.
Palmer Township; Waterford, OH — $4,500 to purchase playground equipment for the community playground.
Project Yoga Mid-Ohio Valley; Vienna, WV — $2,500 to provide class fees and materials for veterans and their spouses.
Rural Action; The Plains, OH — $25,000 to support the scaling and expansion of healthy food access in targeted food deserts in the Mid-Ohio Valley.
The Arc of the Mid-Ohio Valley; Parkersburg, WV — $3,000 to install appliances to teach daily living skills to youth and adults with developmental disabilities.
Village of Racine; Racine, OH — $13,000 to support the implementation of a splash pad at the village park.
Washington-Morgan Community Action; Marietta, OH — $3,500 to support their summer program which provides hot nutritious lunches to children in low-income areas of New Matamoras, Beverly, Lower Salem and Lowell.
West Virginia State University Foundation, Inc.; Institute, WV — $4,320 to support the trainings for the implementation of the healthy grandfamilies program, which provides education and social support for grandparents and relatives who serve as primary caregivers for their grandchildren.
What’s Next MOV; Walker, WV — $1,395 to provide support for the planning and preparation of an educational workshop on the opioid crisis.
Women for Recovery; Athens, OH — $3,500 to provide women residents in a sober living environment with healthy eating habits, gardening skills, and a sense of community.
Wood County Senior Citizens Association, Inc.; Parkersburg, WV — $15,000 to purchase kitchen equipment to increase efficiency of providing meals to seniors in Wood County.
